Pack 95 went back to one of our favorite campsites for our Fall 2017 campout. This would be the first campout for most of our new cubs and their parents. Camp Sumatanga is a great place to camp with great facilities and it’s close to Birmingham in Gallant.
Friday night brought chilly temperatures for the small group that wanted to get an extra night of camping in. Saturday warmed up and was perfect camping weather. The kids played on the rocks by the campground and some dens worked on requirements. By late afternoon we took a hike on the Sumatanga Mountain Trail which is a 2.4 mile out and back trail, and straight up. You can tell from the picture that we had a good group of kids and adults that made it to the top and back again.
The grub staff fed us well. It was hard to top the whole roasted pig from the spring but our crew served us prime rib, mashed potatoes, green beans and yes, mac and cheese. We ended the meal with smores.
We ended the night with our campfire program. I am always impressed with our dens and the skits they come up with each time. We always let the Tiger den perform the “Invisible Bench” sketch because everyone can get involved. Needless to say, the Tigers nailed it.
Thank you to everyone who helped out on the campout, we couldn’t do it without you. Next up, Spring campout in April 2018!
