Sleepy eyed and toughing the heat, the Pack enjoyed a short hike at Ruffner Mountain this past Saturday. The Scouts reviewed the hiking safety rules, demonstrated proper hiking attire and equipment, then headed up the mountain – meeting all the requirements of the Hiking Belt Loop.
Afterwards, we enjoyed the cool air conditioning in the newly constructed Nature Center where the Scouts enjoyed seeing the wildlife in the Woodland Animal Exhibit Hall.
But that was not the end to the fun! The center was kind enough to let our Pack be the first to see a young Cooper Hawk up close and personal that they are caring for. On the way to see the Hawk, we tip-toed past a sleeping possum.
